Why is it so hard to find bikini bathing suits for plus size women?

If you're a woman looking for a plus size bikini bathing suit you already know how hard it is to find one.

A search in google is likely to bring up bikini panties but very few bathing suits. If you do find bathing suit most of them will be tankinis (which are nice but not true bikinis). Finding an actual plus size bikini bathing suit is not as easy as it should be.

So what should we consider as a "true" plus size bikini?

A true bikini consists of a top that covers and supports the breasts and a bottom that starts below the belly button and doesn't go much further. The bottoms are the same shape as bikini panties. And there shouldn't be any material in between.

A tankini is named for the fact that it's two pieces like a bikini but unlike a bikini it's the same coverage as a tank top. Most people looking at a tankini would never know it was two pieces.

So why is it so hard to find real bikini bathing suits for plus size women?

I think the problem here is that swimsuit designers think that being thicker than a stick figure means you want to hide your body. And I'm sure some women want that very much but some women are perfectly happy with their bodies and want the option of wearing a bikini.

Just look at the beautiful model in the bikini in the picture above. She looks great even though she's not anorexic. I think the future for plus size bikinis is bright but for now we just have to dig a little deeper.
